Nota
Fast notes in the menu bar. Type to search or to make a new note. Each note is a Markdown file, with optional encryption.
Install
- Download Nota-0.1.0.zip
- Open the zip and drag Nota.app to your Applications folder.
How it works
Search or create
Click the menu bar icon, or press ⇧⌘N, and type. Nota finds notes as you type. Press ↵ to open the match, or to make a new note with that title.
Write in Markdown
Use ⌘B and ⌘I for bold and italic. The Markdown marks stay hidden while you write. Click a link to open it.
Bookmark your top notes
Press ⇧⌘D to pin the open note to ⌘1–⌘9. ⌘0 shows all bookmarks.
Plain files
Each note is a .md file in a folder you pick (~/Documents/Notes by default). Open them in any app, or sync them with iCloud or Dropbox.
Lock your notes
Turn on Encrypt all notes in Settings to protect them with a password. Touch ID can unlock them.
If you lose the password and Touch ID is off, encrypted notes can't be recovered.
Good to know
- Changes made to the files outside Nota show up right away.
- Encrypted notes use AES-256. The file names don't show the titles.
- Nota locks itself after some minutes hidden (you choose how many).
